ADOPTED! Andouille

Animal’s name: Andouille Age (years): .3 Weight (pounds): 7 Spayed/Neutered: No Sex: Male Coat: Smooth Color: Red Adoption fee: 300 Andouille’s dream came true, he is home at last.  He is adopted! Andouille is a very sweet 13 weeks old boy. He was left in the night drop box at a local shelter. When the shelter workers found him the next morning, he was a mess. This little puppy, had chewed his tail off, and it was bloody, infected stub. He was turned over to rescue, and our vet, has determined that sweet Andouille was perhaps swung by his tail, causing neuro damage. When the nerves tried to regenerate, the tingling drove him to chew his tail off. He is currently on a regime of medication to get him past this, he is taking a humane drug to sooth those nerves so he can heal. He is also scheduled to start acupuncture to heal him as well. Due to his age, he is not neutered yet, but that will be scheduled before he is adopted. He is a blank slate, so his foster Mom is teaching him to wait to be lifted onto furniture and to use the ramp. He is expected to make a full recovery from his abuse. Because he needs special medical care, we are seeking donations from the public to help. Every little bit helps, so please send what you can. Our website will be updated with mailing address so you can help Andouille, heal. This Colorado Sweetheart is a Colorado Dachshund Rescue friend. All of our dogs, are spay and neutered, up to date on vaccines and are heart worm negative and on preventative. We re home close to 100 Dachshunds each year, and save many of them from certain death at local shelters. By working with local shelters, we are able to give them a second chance to find their new forever homes. If you are interested in giving this sweet boy, his forever Colorado home, please go to: The Adoption Form to begin the adoption process!

LAFAYETTE, Colo. — He’s only a few inches tall, but a miniature dachshund named Spork is at the middle of a debate over vicious dogs. It’s even earned him his own fan page on Facebook where as of Tuesday afternoon he had 2,900 friends.

“He’s family,” said Kelly Walker, who has had Spork since he was a puppy.

Kelly and her husband Tim are fighting a ticket they received charging them with owning a vicious dog.

“Once we were holding that ticket we felt it was a death sentence for our pet so we vowed to fight it as hard as we could,” said Tim.

In August, the Walker’s said Spork bit a veterinary technician during an exam at Jasper Animal Hospital in Lafayette. As a result of the attack, the Walker’s said both the vet tech who was bitten and the veterinarian of the animal hospital filed reports with animal control.

If the Walker’s are found guilty of owning a vicious dog Spork could be euthanized or kenneled.

“I went to that vet thinking they were trained to take care of my dog properly,” said Kelly.

According to state law in Colorado, a dog owner is not liable for a dog bite if the person bitten is a vet, groomer or anyone who works closely with animals.

But city of Lafayette is asserting home-rule exception, which means they do not have to follow state law.

“This speaks to the people of Lafayette,” said Jennifer Edwards, of The Animal Law Center. “Be warned about going to vet care centers, groomers, because if your dog bites it could face euthanasia.”

7News contacted Jasper Animal Hospital to get their response to this situation. The veterinarian said he will not comment until he sees court documents Tuesday.

For some perspective on dogs and the law, Denver uses the home-rule law to ban pit bulls even though state law says breed- specific bans are illegal.

There is even an online petition to save Spork.
