Daisy came from a high kill shelter.  She was going to be transferred to another shelter, when all involved felt she would not pass the temperment test.  So she travelled to Fort Collins to come into rescue.  She is a domaniant female, and would do best with only a male doxie.  She will pick fights with other girls.  She would do best as the only dog, where she can be treated like the queen!  Her houseskills are great.

Moby has been adopted!

Moby was adopted out 3 years ago, and the family tearfully returned him, because they were victims of our economy.  They lost their job and their home and could no longer care for Moby.  Moby recently had his teeth cleaned.  He is big standard boy, and gets along with everybody.  He is just a sweet old man looking for his forever home.  Please don’t overlook Moby he is a gem!

Patches is a wiggle butt, happy, very busy young lady.  She has no time to set still for pictures!  She was a stray that ended up in a high kill shelter.   We beleive she is mostly doxie, but there is something else in her gentic make up as she is a tall girl!  Patches would do best iin a home with another young dog to wrestle and play with.

Dolly was left in a small crate, abandoned in a local park.  At some point she has had a back injury, and she has recovered the best she could with out medical treatment.  Since coming into rescue, she has been spayed and had a dental, as well as her regular  vet care.  She does very well, with other dachshunds.  She does have a hitch in her giddy up, but she just keeps going.  She is a sweet girl, who would do best in an adult only home.

Heidi’s owner took ill and could no longer care for her.  Heidi is a strong willed little girl, and does poorly with strangers, but once she trust you, you are both best friends.  Her house skills are great, and she gets along well with other Dachshunds.  She would do best in an adult only home, with a safely fenced yard.

Morris showed up at the shelter as a stray, severely malnurished.  He was adopted out and returned because he was hyper and chewed everything in sight.  The shelter reported him to be a three year old.  But based in his peraly whites, he’s a very young dog, maybe closer to 18 months old.  He loves to cuddle and sit contently on your lap.  He loves other dogs, and is a very sweet kind boy that would do well in any situation.

Hank and his father L.D. belonged to a young woman who could no longer afford to feed them.  A relative took them in and had them for a year, she could no longer afford to feed them.  And she couldn’t allow them to live in the house, so they spent all of their time in an outdoor run.  The have been to the vet for a checkup, vaccines, and HW test.  They are scheduled to be neutered.  L.D. is a kind loving boy, that readily jumps in your lap for loving.  As Hank only knows the outdoor run, he doesn’t know what to think about people.  But he is quickly learning, people are kind.  Both boys recently got a taste of peanut butter and cookies, and altho these were new experiences for them, they thought the PB was great!

LB has been adopted!

Lady Bird is a happy, go lucky little girl.  She was found running down a Colorado Interstate.  She was in heat and running free.  She has since been spayed and x rayed as she has a boney protrusion near her neck.  The x rays show that at some point, some how (We will let you fill in the blanks) her shoulder blade was split in half, and the front half moved forward and then reattached to the back half.  It is a bizarre break, and even stranger healing.  At this point nothing can be done, and fortunatly for this sweet, kind little girl it does not affect how she walks , runs or plays.  The only thing it really affects, is she can not wear a collar, as it gets stuck on the bone.  If you are interested in this sweet girl, and live in Colorado, please fill out the online application.

Rosie was turned into a local shelter.  She takes some time to warm up to men, but does great with women. it took her about 2 days to warm up to her gentle, patient foster Dad.   She really hated the male Doctor she had to see.  So a female Doctor would be best for her.  She does well with other dachshunds and likes to play.  Rosie would love to be the center of attention in her new home.

Schultz was a stray at a local shelter, he was terrified at the shelter and was unable to be examined.  We do not know anything about his past, but we are confident his future holds much joy for him and his new family.  When picked up at the shelter and carried out to the car for the ride home.  He leaned his head into his foster mom’s neck and pressed hard, and let out the biggest sigh!  At that point we knew his life had been saved for a reason.  Shultz lost a few teeth during his dental, and his bloodwork was good.  This little guy is healthy, but chunky.  He is very tender hearted and listens well, he also loves being with other Doxies.  Will you be the new forever family he is looking for?  If you live in Colorado please fill out the online application, to bring this gentleman home.

Mike and Ike were tossed over a locked fenced yard at a local shelter.  So we know nothing about them.  In their foster home, we are learning a lot.  They are bonded to each other, and they love to wrestle and play chase with each other.  They get along with other Dachshunds, but are so busy running after each other playing tag, that their foster siblings just set back and watch the circus in action.  They would love to have a big yard in their new home, so the antics can continue.

Charlie found his forever home, he has been adopted!

Charlie was abandoned in the house when the family moved.  A neighbor took Charlie in but couldn’t keep him, so he went  to the shelter.  Charlie didn’t do well at the shelter so into rescue he came.  The neighbor reports that Charlie was in a homme with children abd did well.  At his foster home, Charlie is a joy, he gets along with other dogs, and is a happy boy.  He doesn’t understand why is family just left him behind, but he is ready for a new life.

Pretzel showed up as a stray at a local Colorado shelter, he is shy and did not find a home thru the shelter.  So into rescue he came.  We do not know a lot about his background, but he warms up quickly and he talks to you when you snuggle him, he is crate trained, and loves hanging out with other Dachshunds.

Beau showed up as a stray at a local shelter in a small rural Colorado area.  He was reclaimed by is owner, but turned up as a stray again a few weeks later.  His owner would not return the shelters calls this time.  This time Beau came into rescue with the high hopes of finding a new home that wouldn’t let him run at large.  Beau is wonderful with people and does well with Dachshunds he gets to know.  He is crate trained and loves squeekie toys.  He is working on his house skills.  He will do just about anything asked of him for a cookie.

Opie has been adopted!

Opie turned up at a local shelter as a stray.  He was on the shy side, and didn’t show well, so rescue was called to take him in.  He’s a goofy red head, so hence the name Opie, but his foster dad likes to call him Blue.  Opie escaped all the issues some double dapples have, such as sight and hearing problems.  He is a very unique looking pure bred Dachshund, and he is camerea shy to.  He loves being with other Dachshunds, and getting his treats after doing his outside chores.  He is crate trained, and very social. He  has a wonderful attitude on life, “let’s have fun”!  If your looking to add  a wonderful friend to your life, Opie may just be the buddy your looking for.

Big Boy and Baby Boy are wonderful, kind, loving standard boys.  They are brothers from different litters.  They grew up in their home with their doggie Mom and Dad.  Life was very good until 2 months ago, their aging doggie dad decided he hated the boys, and attacked them.  Both boys required lots of stitches, so with broken hearts the family decided the boys needed to find new homes before their doggie dad killed them.  We at rescue are grateful the family decided to keep the old man, to live in peace, and they did the right thing for the boys.  The boys are great with other dogs, are housetrained, know the dog door, and are just wonderful dogs.  We don’t get standards into rescue very often, so if you love big boys, fill out the application and get ready for a whole bunch of loving!

Holla has been adopted!

Holla’s name should be changed to Faith. Here’s her story. She was hit by a car, and taken to the local emergency hospital where it was determined her femur was broken in half. Her Daddy couldn’t afford the several thousand dollar surgery to repair her leg. So this big six foot three guy broke down in tears as he relinquished her to the hospital, not knowing her fate, The hospital called Rescue at 7 in the morning, and told us of her story. We didn’t know how we were going to afford to help Holla, but I just went on pure Faith that this little girl would get the care she needed. I rushed down to meet her, and she sat there with that broken leg and handed out kisses to whomever wanted one. She wasn’t shy about sharing her love. Plans were discussed, find the money to have surgery, amputate the leg, what were we going to do? Still I had Faith that something was going to happen to allow us to get her the care she needed. By that evening I stopped by to see her again, and that’s when the miracle happened. A local Vet donated the surgery time, he just needed his supplies covered, a generous Dachshund lover stepped up and made a donation to pay for the Doctor’s supplies, one of the emergency hospital’s Vet Techs stepped up and volunteered to foster her.

So Little Holla is quickly on the road to recovering and this little dog, and the people she touches is nothing short of a miracle.  Altho it is sad that her original dad couldn’t keep her, it is in her best interest to find a new home, her old home, well she was an outside farm dog.  He loved her so much that he did the right thing for her.  And now she deserves to be an indoor princess.

Sweet Currie’s dream came true, he found his forever home!

Update:  Currie is ready for his new home.  He has attended several rescue events as the CODR mascot, and everyone he meets is amazed at how well this 3 legged little man does.

Currie is not ready for adoption, he is in recovery. Currie was hit by a car 2 months ago, he was taken to the vet’s were xrays showed no broken bones. Fast forward 2 months, he developed radial nerve damage, and lost the use of his leg. His leg quit functioning, and he dragged it and that caused further trauma. His owner took him to a local shelter, because they couldn’t afford vet care. Because Currie went so long with out proper vet care, his leg was damaged beyond saving, and had to be amputated. Currie’s Doctor and foster Mom both report he is the sweetest, kindest boy. Ready to give kisses to whom ever will take them. Currie is doing very well, with the troublesome leg removed. Over the weekend, he did spike a terribly high temperature and had to go to CSU for emergency treatment, but he is back on the mend again. He will get his drain out later this week, and the staples next week. This is one sweet dog that needs lots of Colorado buddies to help him find his next forever home. We love you Currie!

Typsy and his brother Tiko were turned into a local shelter because two of the four Dachshunds in the home killed a cat.  So these boys took the blame, and because of this “agressive” behaviour they were deemed unadoptable at the shelter.  Tiko has already been adopted and lives in complete harmony with 2 cats.  Typsy does have a strong prey drive and would do best in a home without cats.
